This is most likely just a lack of my ability to find information, but it seems there aren't many good resources online that discuss rendering within the Revit environment. Is it possible to change the color of a material in Revit without changing the material file itself? I have applied a siding material to a wall using the paint tool. However, I want to paint that siding say bright pink. And thanks in advance for any and all help. Revit Architecture 2009.

The siding material is a difficult one to change colors because its an image base material. The only way I can think of to get bright pink siding is to find the image file, take it into paint or something and make it pink, then save it as "Pink Siding" and then Make a new material and select the "Pink Siding" image file.

Thanks Broncos (gee, I hope that's no a reference to the football team, cuz everyone knows the Bears rule). I figured that was the only way to change it. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some button somewhere to make it much simpler. Will just have to put this into the wish list at AUGI.

This is one of the areas where we lost something when they changed the render engine. With AccuRender, you could edit these colors and save them. So if you are on 2008 or earlier, you can do that from within REVIT.

I had come across the same issue and along with photoshoping a new one I have also changed the color category under generic material properties ti reference a single color instead of the predefined image file. You still have the bump image to give you some texture and renders about the same - saves you a little time anyway.

Thanks, DTCesarz. I hadn't tried that and at least on first pass it seemed to work pretty well.
