Create a mass and use roof by face....if you cant create that shape with a mass (may not be able to if its not a perfect curve) then you can probably create that shape in SketchUp and as long as it creates faces for those planes then you can use roof by face on your sketchup model.

Hi, to create that kind of roof, create with mass-solid blend, then use the voids to cut that mass and use the "Curtain sloped glazed" to create "this type of diagrid" creating before that profile "219X4.8 CHS member".

Dont do a blend, do a sweep, and cut out the end profiles, I dont see how you could make this with a blend. Then do roof by face, but your roof type is sloped glazing.

Bronco, you can do it with a blend, create a reference line, attach the plan to that ref line and you can do it...

Sorry i havent had much luck with the methods suggested. This is how i want it to look (attached file). It was done in Pro-Steel, but i want to know how to do it in revit if at all possible. I cant seem to do it cos revit wont draw a refrence line like the shape of the roof (in two directions) if it was only curved in one direction i can do it by drawing a refrence line on the member line than doing a solid form> solid sweep> sketch 2d path and insert a profile on it but cos they curve in two directions i cant seem to do it?

What version of Revit do you work, 2008 or 2009?

Ok...the way to do this is to import your CAD file in to Google SketchUP (free download), then trace over all of your lines, and for the majority of areas you will need to create a diagnal across one of the spans of each diamond to create a solid piece. Once this is completly sketch out in SketchUp and everything is solid you can import the skp file in to revit. Use the solids to do wall/roof/sloped glazing by face. As for your 219x4.7CHS on the lines I would make a profile of that shape and do a sweep on each picking the lines braught in from SketchUp for your path. I tried doing this in sketchup and it was working, but it kept crashing on me...so save often. Also sketchup will not import A-Cad 2009. HTH

When i see this Roof for the first time i don't "Look" the exactly problem of this, i see in plan and a 3d but i don't see in every angles, so, today i Look the model for extensive atention and to be honest, i spend one hour to do this in revit, you can do this in Revit 2009 with "Solid Swept blend" in two parts, first in the left to middle with two profiles and the the other side in the same way and use a "couple" of voids to do this, because you have in this model several inclinations, "Longitudinal Center, Transversal Center and left and right inclinations of differents elevation points (view from Left and Right)", so in Revit it takes some "hours" to complete acomplish this model, BRONCOS his right, the best and quick way to do this is use "External" program, i don't work in Google SketchUP, Broncos says it works in that, i use RHINO 4.0, it's like MAX but i think it's more simple to use (than MAX), so i think i do the model in Rhino then in Revit go to "Massing" and import the solid, then use the "Roof by Face" and change this roof for "Sloped Glazing" to can do that structural with profiles previous created in Families, you can use MAX too, to do the massing before imported to Revit, In Revit you can do that by phases, Left-Middle then Middle to right, in RHINO you can create them in one piece... FREESTYLLER, if you to authorize me i'd like to send this file to a "GURU" of revit to see if he can give me a best solution for this case and for the future we can solve this issues in the best way?

Typhoon, the way you are explaining to do this in Revit does not alow the joints and the bends, you cant rotate curtain grids so Im confused as how he is going to put the CHS on the lines, as the swept mass will not have those joints. This shape is a modified geodesic dome that has been flatened...a geodesic is pretty much impossible to make in Revit...yes you can mimic the shape by doing sweeps but you CAN'T get the bends and folds that show for the CHS members by using Revit.
