rac 2008 I have a deck with a run of stairs. Deck has a rail, I duplicated the deck rail and renamed it for the stair rail. I'm trying to get the stair balusters to sit along side the stringer the same way they do at the deck. When I position the stair rail where it needs to be to align the balusters to proper location they detach from the stairs and end up running parallel to the ground. Is there a way to accomplish what I'm trying to do?

Try to rehost the rail to the stairs. If this is an issue because the railing is too far off the stairs they will not but uou can use the offset setting for the rail to keep the rail hosted but off the stairs.

trying to rehost railing. unlike rehosting doors and windows where the rehost option is on the option bar, the rehost option for railings is not in the same location on the options bar. Where's the rehost command icon for railings? thanks

Click on the railing and edit it. It will then give you the option to set host in the left column.

As a mere novice user, I thought my two cents may be worth something here. Try this: When you edit the baluster placement, there's a check box about two/thirds the way down on the screen that asks "Use baluster per tread on stairs", then over to the right, there's another check box that asks how many per tread. I think these boxes are checked off and therefore giving you the look you don't want. Try removing them to see what happens. HTH...??

Thanks Testersh I'd never looked at that check boxes. I've included a screen shot to show the results by changing the check box. It also changed the tops of the balusters. probably just a matter of changing the baluster offset, I'll play with that on the next one.
