I see no way to drop in component lights and ceiling fans into my RCP why is this so difficult. I am in the rcp view and a little circle with a line thru it comes up when i hover over the ceilings? no tutorials on installing lighting to be found. any idea why it is not seeing the ceiling (underside of floor) in the RCP with these components?

No need for a snapshot. This is REVIT 101. The stop sign "circle with line thru it' (see attached image) usually means you are trying to place a component that cannot find a valid 'host' where your mouse is hovering. To replicate this, try placing a window and hover on and off of a wall. There's your stop sign. Families can be wall hosted or floor hosted or ceiling hosted or hosted by a level or reference plane. It totally depends on how the component family was created. * Further more, look at the options bar for a two icons at the top of the screen after you start the placement. One icon is 'green' and the other is a little 'grid'. This indicates 'face mounted' and 'planar' mounted. Try switching between those two options. REVIT has made some improvements in this area for 2009. The bottom line is the stop sign indicates 'no valid host'. So change the placement method or pick a valid host. Another issue you may come across occasionally is if you component is face based and your view is set to wireframe you will not be able to place it as obviously in wireframe there are no faces visibile. HTH.
