Hi, I need help with ceiling creation. I need to create an irregular shaped ceiling (vertically) that gives out the exact area in the quatities schedule. I created one with in place family, but the area it gives me is not of the surface of the cieling, but of the area of extrusion. I don't get why the compound ceiling option does not give an alternative for irregular ceilings. Is there another way?

When you say irregular ceiling, do you mean a flat ceiling with different corner heights or a curve ceiling and projected? Can you post a sreenshot? If its a flat in-place ceiling, the area depends on the plane where it was drawn from. Make sure to draw it on the right plane and not just to rotate to have it tilted or skewed.

This is an example of the type of shapes I need. This is for a mall food court design Type of thing. I also tried doing it with roof by extrusion, but this only works when the path it follows is a straight line, not for curved paths, so still no luck. Any sujestions are helpful. THANKS!

extrude a mass in this shape then you can create a wall/roof/curtain system by face. its under the massing tab of the deign bar.

If it's just the surface area you're after, you can do a parameter that computes the area for your type of ceiling like, Total length of arc X length of extrusion.

You can use the extrude mass solution as mentioned, however, I would create an in-place ceiling family (Modelling> Create> Ceiling....) this way it can be scheduled with other ceilings etc Justin www.revitup.co.za

Hi, Justin I believe that is what they already have done... I can't say that I've ever noticed the area parameter to be wrong on an in-place ceiling. Perhaps try creating it using a blend instead of an extrusion and see if you get a different area result...
