I work within a 20 person firm in which 1/2 the staff uses Revit. All of our Revit Central files are located, where else, on our network server. Over the past few months, we've noticed a huge network slowdown and we're trying to determine if it's the increase in the number of Revit Users, our upgrade from Revit 2008 to 2009, or simply other miscellaneous network issues that aren't being caught by our outsourced IT consultants. Most of the Revit Users are noticing the network slowdown, while those using Word processing or simply email are not, as much. MS Outlook tends to open slowly in the morning, so we're inclined to believe it's a general network issue and not a Revit issue. Typical programs used in our office on a daily basis include: MS Outlook, Revit Architecture Suite 2008/2009, Autocad 2008, MS Word, MS Excel, Photoshop, and Powerpoint. Has anyone else noticed network slowdowns since implementing Revit? We've already blocked all network streaming from the internet and haven't noticed any speed increase. We recently purchased a new switch for our network from our IT consultants and that does not appear to fix the slowdown issues either. Thanks all! Flick

Yea your going to have to do traffic monitoring in order to get to the bottom of it. Otherwise make sure that your network is transmitting at full speed and that people aren't unnecessarily using the server (like listening to music off of the network) Also if people are saving to central every 6 seconds this could slow it down.

I just started here at a new firm and I found that with their network deployment they have their materials libraries on the network. Running the benchmarks off the old accurender platform there was a pretty substantial difference when running it on the network vs running it off of the local HD. Network score: 140's Local score: 170's I am not a fan of working on a network. Give me a high power workstation with a huge hard drive and I will avoid my server as much as possible. Download the worksharing monitor, under system performance it shows your network activity.

For me, Revit 2009 content is split into two parts. Render content (materials, etc) sits locally in the C:\Program Files\Revit Architecture 2009\Data\Rendering folder (default). "Other" content is on the network - \\servername\softwareimages\RevitArchitecture2009_WU1\Content It makes sense that this was done this way - the render content, as you said, is always being pulled when the jobs are being done, taxing the servers & network.
