I am trying to use keynoting.  None of the Revit materials or detail components have any keynotes assigned to them.  Settings/materials/identity/keynote is blank on every single Revit pre-defined material.  Not one detail component has a keynote assigned to it.  Does Revit really intend for you to have to do that all manually?  That would render keynoting pretty useless.  That would be a shame, because it is a very powerful tool, once the keynotes are set to the materials and components.

We use Revit 2008.

Settings/keynote settings/full path is set to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\RAC 2008\Imperial Library\RevitKeynotes_Imperial.txt.   I tried copying this file and making it not-read-only.   No luck

What am I missing?   Thanks.

You can use any excel file and save as a TXT file. And load it as your keynote file (keep that file in the central file folder, not on a local computer, just to keep it accessible for everyone)

Just remember to follow the format structure to keep it organized in folders and subfolders, it is a little messy to visualize and read, but is very flexible...

I understand how to assign keynotes to materials.  The problem is that it would take an extraordinary amount of time to do so for every detail component and every material.   My guess is many hours of tedious work serarching through pull down lists.   That seems like a no brainer for the creator of the software.   Why doesn' revit assign them?  This seems like a major oversight rendering keynoting nearly useless.
