I made a door family that has two nested window---- within the family editor the wall opening are working correctly but once I insert the family into a test file that has a wall the window openings do not cut the wall as they should. The openings are created as a void cut to allow for the masonry return, does this pose the problem?
Please advise.
Best regards,
Fabian

Try using an opening as opposed to a void

Haven't tried this, but what if you include a void in the combination family that is set to cut the wall.... It won't therefore have to cut in the family but will cut what the other windows aren't cutting in the project....
Ohh i even confused myself with that sentence.
Nested voids in families haven't never been able to cut more than 2 levels deep.
Family--Family-- Project = 3 Levels.
Family--Family = 2 Levels and thus works as does Family -- Project.

Thanks for your replies
I can not make it an opening in the window family because the opening modeling tool does only
allow non proflie 2d cuts and that would compromise the masonry returns.
But what about a hierarchy change?
family door(opening) into family window(void) into project
or making an inplace void family?
I tried the above and the only way I could make it work is inserting another window family that only consists of a void. I placed this on top of the window / door and recut the wall.
This way it displays fine and generates a window and a door tag.
Thanks again,
Fabian
