I'm using Revit MEP 2009 and have been all through the help and the manuals, but can't seem to find any clear directions on how to apply a finish (say, hardwood flooring) to a floor so that I can render it with that appearance. I am using a Generic 12" floor and Generic 8" walls in my test project. In Object styles\floors I've navigated to a hardwood floor pattern, but this doesn't seem like the right way to do it as all the floors in the whole building would then be hardwood. I also tried creating a room and typing in Hardwood next to floor finish, but clearly this will not tell Revit where to look for the image file nor how to apply it.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I am not so familiar with Revit MEP, can it do rendering like the Revit Architecture? If it can, here's how you do it.

You can apply materials directly to elements (floor, wall, ceiling, etc.) through Element properties, Type Properties, Edit Structure and apply your desired finishes (it's not that complicated but needs some learning on your part). This is a good way if you have previiously defined your wall types, floor types, ceiling types, etc.; in your model

If you are just trying to test a material on a surface, you can do a Paint Bucket (in some cases you have to use its partner the "split face"Winking on most of the surfaces. But first you have to define the materials using Settings (pulldown menu), Materials.

If you are trying a high-end rendering,...there's much to learn.
