There seems to be a lack of information in the help file regarding how to associate a type catalog text based file to a family.
Am I missing something very evident?
Could anybody point me in the right direction?
Thanks.

The type catalog .txt. file and the family name both need to be the same (expect of course the extension). They both need to reside in the same directory as well. Revit seems to take care of the rest.
I've attached one of our millwork families and type catalog for you to look at. The Revit help file will show you the basics of how to construct the type catalog file.
