Is there a way anyone is aware of to add several shared parameters to a family at the same time? I have become frustrated with the tedium of adding 30 shared parameters to each family I create one by one. It would be great if I could somehow add all of them to the family at once. Any Ideas? AVSteve

First a question. - Why do you need 30 shared parameters in a family? Is each of these really used - WoW? OK - Your answer. Create a family and load the parameters then save it. - You don't need anything else and you can use this as your template. Another option - use a family you ahve already created as your template and delete what you don't need.

I do in fact have about 30 parameters that are used in some of my mechanical equipment families. They are used for scheduling of the mechanical units, for example each unit will have data showing the entering air temp, leaving air temp, sensible capacity, latent capacity, total capacity, filter size, filter type, Voltage, FLA, MOCP, Ambient temp, weight, etc., etc... You can imagine how tedious it has been to add each of these parm's to every family, and for this reason I appreciate immensely your tip on how to cut out this tedious work. Thank you very much. AVSteve

I have gone both routes with this exact same query! I have been in this software since square 1, long, long before REVIT 4 and I know all the ins and outs of this problem. As an electrical engineer, scheduling is my game and knowing how diverse the parameters can get, I too have had to install, literally a hundred plus parameters into a single family. In the case of a water heater, mechanical, plumbing, architectural, electrical and structural all have parameters to be included. Even when I compile a template with the basis of parameters, I still have to add more. I have gone through the trouble of trying to edit a families digital language in hopes of adding multiple parameters and still no go. When can we have a utility that will allow group install of a disciplines base. I will be at AU next week begging this same question. Any more thoughts to accomplishing this aside from just a template file or an existing family spinning forward. I head this effort for my firm and encourage cross discipline shared parameters as the most versatile way of customizing the software to meet our needs.

Hey - it's been almost 4 years since this thread, is there any development on this? Can we still not batch-add parameters
to a family? I load my 15 shared parameters and then have to add each one individually from there...
If anyone is able to shed any light on this that'd be great!
Thanks!

I understand the template. You're only looking at it from one side - if you are starting a new family made from scratch it works perfect. On the other hand, Architects regularly pull families from manufacturers and download fellow revit user families, in which case we need to associate our custom parameters for scheduling with the family. From this perspective you're not starting from a template, but from an already constructed family and must load our own parameters. Does this make sense?

Look up an add on called Parameter Jerk, it'll do exactly what you are looking for. One word of warning though, it gives instructions for a workaround to add parameters to an in-place family, but every time I've tried it I get some extremely weird issues cropping up. It didn't break my projects, but it's made a couple difficult to work with. So, only use it in a normal family.
