Can anyone tell me how to edit the view reference tag? I've assigned a view reference tag to a matchline, but it's labeled as REF and I want to change it to the proper sheet number and view. I'm working in Revit 2009. I've searched the help file and it was no help.

If you have split a view using a matchline and dependent views, when you place the views on a sheet, the reference will update automatically.

I have my matchline and my two dependant views on each sheet, but it still shows Ref??  Why is that?

Lorne ... I don't have time right now - mabe next week.  You have done something wrong.  I know it works because I've used it a couple of times.

This is really pretty straight forward.  Did you read your H E L P searching for matchline?  It shows how to create the dependent views, then place the matchline.

And just like most call-out / view tags, you can modify the matchline callout.

Yes I did read the help dialog first.  I have three views, one overall, and TWO DEPENDANT views.  It still shows as 'ref' and not the sheet reference.  I think I'm doing it the correct way.  Unless I'm missing something.

I open my overal view, turn crop regions on.  Then go to View tab>Sheet Composition panel>Matchline.  I'm then in sketch mode.  I've tried drawing a straight line where both dependent views overlap.  Also tried to draw a straight line with each end sticking into the dependant crop region boundary.  Then I go to Annotate Tab>Tag Panel>View Reference.  When I go to place it, the crop regions highlight and I can't place it.  I cannot highlight the matchline, but when I try to click on it that's when it places the tag that says: "Ref".  They are both on their appropriate sheets.

What did I miss?

Thanks,

Lorne

It will display "Ref" when you haven't applied a "View Reference Tag" for the system family to use.

  1. Select the tag and go to element properties.
  2. Edit
  3. From the drop down pick your loaded view reference tag
  4. OK

If you don't have a view reference tag family loaded, load the default one from the metric or imperial library or create your own.

HTH.

That worked!  Thank you!  I really do apologize for my stupid questions on these forums.  But I get stuck and no one in the office can help.

I appreciate the time all of you take to help others here.  WWHub & Mr. Spot I know you have probably been the one to help me the most.  Thanks.
