It is possible to simply move model information from one place to the true project origin, but by doing this, you risk leaving something behind or having project information or geometry deleted entirely.  Rather, can a new true origin point be reassigned?  If so, how?

Application:  I want to move my theatre building so it has the proper relationship to the Revit origin point for easy coordination with all team members.  However, when the model is moved, it errors out and warns me that "elements will be deleted (mostly handrails and details like that).  Is there away to reassign the origin point to achieve the desired relationship, or is there a way to relocate the entire model without the risk of leaving anything behind or having anyting deleted?

Have you tried the relocate project function?  Under TOOLS, PROJECT POSITION/ORIENTATION,RELOCATE PROJECT.  This should achieve what you are looking for.

The relocate project only reassigns the shared coordinates and not the internal origin point of the revit model.  I have the same issue and would like to find a solution also.

I'd also someday like a solution to this.

I don't think you need to relocate the project. You just need to relocate the survey point (while clipped) to where you would like the origin to be. Then when you export to DWG use the "Shared Coordinate" system.

Is that what your looking for?

I just wrote a blog post about this at www.pkhlineworks.ca

the problem we have is that when coordinating between autocad dwg's and revit backgrounds is best done with the project internal 0,0 point the same as the PBP 0,0 point the same as the dwg 0,0 point.

where this starts to fall apart, at least for me, is that when I export an autocad drawing as shared with the coordinates the project is rotated to 'true north'  Now typically this isn't a problem as I can export with 'project internal' origin and the project will be rotated to 'project north'  However since the internal 0,0 and PBP 0,0 aren't at the same spot exporting with 'project internal' ends up with a project way off.

it would also be nice to utilize the origin to origin import/link option successfully too.

in a perfect world I would have started this project myself and this wouldn't have been an issue.  unfortunately not the case.

i'm going to check your blog post out too.

I had something smilar on a project. I ended up lining up project and true north to get rid of the rotation on the exports. My blog post doesn't deal with that.

The only time I see needing to rotate the north is if you are doing sun studies. We don't so I just never rotate it and keep things simple. I have a north arrow that points to true and project north and the angle can be set in the family.
