is there a way to automatically render multiple images either at once, or one after another?

Not really. Technically it is possible to write a Journal File to do this, but would require programming knowledge... The only the other way is render different views simultaneously on multiple computers...

I haven't done this yet but an instructor once told me you could create a walkthrough and set it to render only still images at certain points. This would render images one after another.

that is a good suggestion... do you know how to set up a walk though so it jumps larger frames rather then rendering each frame?
