Hi everyone - I found a previous post where someone had a similar problem that never got any replies, so I thought I'd try again. I'm using revit 2009. I've created a wall sweep in a gymnasium that represents these wall pads that go up to a certain height. The sweep cuts at the doors, but not at the door frames, as you can see in the picture. What to do?

Hi, "The sweep cuts at the doors, but not at the door frames" because the DOOR it's a Family and that's the way it is created, you can open a hole around the door and the frame still there.... to solve this is open the door family and change the frame like do you want but change also the name with "Save as", to preserve the original... you must work in the Door Family...

thanks for your reply. I'm not really sure what you mean by "open the door family and change the frame like you want". The door frame already looks exactly like I want it to, I just want the gym pads (the wall sweep) to be cut by the door frame as well as the door opening.

what I want is for the wall sweep (the gym pads, grey in the picture) to stop at the edges of the door frames, whereas now they're stopping at the edge of the door opening. anybody else have any ideas?

What Typoon is talking about is in the door family there is an opening that gets cut in to a wall. Yours is probably set within the door frame and needs to be pulled out to the outside face of the door frame. What he meands by openthe door is you need to edit the door family and change the opening defined in the family to the outside face of the frame.

thanks, that helps to clarify things. so I guess there's no way to make the sweep cut by the frame itself?

It sounds lik you are not comforable in editing families. Post the revit door family on the posting and I will edit the family for you to see if we can get the desired results.

thanks for the offer - I'm fine with editing families, just wanted to know if there was a faster way before editing all that geometry, since there are multiple door families in the gym.

When you select on the Sweep, do you see little blue dots at the bottom corners at the edge next to the doors. If so, grab one of the dots and drag it back until the door frame is exposed. This should be fast and easy, unless I'm wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. You can always edit the end points of your Walls Sweeps. I have another idea for you, but try this first and let me know how it works.

unfortunately, it looks like the blue dots only appear at the ends of the sweep (ie, in the corners), and not where the sweep is cut by an opening in the wall.

OK so drag the sweep all the way back to fill in the first section. Then, place another wall sweep. You will get a warning about them overlapping, just ignor it. Then, drag the ends to fill in the second section. Repeat until all of the sections are filled. Not exactly fast, but easier than editing all of your doors (which is pretty easy FYI).

The blue dot idea will work but you need to select your sweep and go to properties-->edit/new and uncheck the "Cut by Inserts" parameter. This will make the blue dots show up on every segment of the sweep.

Sweet. I thought it should work with dots at each cut. Now, I am intersted to see if that works for NancyHKA.

thought the thing with the overlapping wall sweeps would work, but revit won't let me place two on top of each other. I get a error message saying that the wall sweeps overlap, and it won't allow me to place the second one. unchecking "cut by inserts" does give me blue dots at each door, but then the wall sweep doesn't cut for the windows in the gym (you can see one of them in the picture). so, this would work great in a situation where the wall only had doors in it, but not so well in this case. thanks for all the suggestions, though. so I guess the only thing that will work in this case is editing the opening in the door families themselves? won't this make the floor plan look all funny, as the door opening will be wider than the door? I guess another option is just to fake in the door frames in elevation, although I realize this sort of thing is generally frowned upon because it's all autocaddy and stuff.
