Would be nice to have the power to exclude items from calculations. for example columns and some walls. If the room area calculations could have a filter then you could accurately estimate GLA (Gross lettable area), NLA (net lettable area) and SLA (sellable lettable area)... Otherwise these calculations still need to be computed manually. This function in Revit is a little disappointing As Im a newbie, there may be something I missing

Use "non-bounding" properties for items (like column, partition, etc) that you don't want to include. From settings, room and Area setting, you can guide revit on where to take the area (al wall finish, center of core, etc.). You can do formula and calculations on most of your schedules. Discover!

Cheers mate, thanks for the reply Thats great, but in my situation i have columns imbedded in some walls, Once I exclude room bounding I get an error - Room is not in a properly enclosed region...... Is there any other method on incorporating columns into walls???

Ahh I see. Stupid me Even though they are instances you can alter the options for each. Still, the method of measurement states that area calculations engage perimeter columns or piers.

Though, cumbersome sometimes, you can use join geometry to join walls & columns, to avoid room improperly enclosed error.
