Hey there. using 2008. For a sports hall im designing I having problems installing lights, as I don't want to have a ceiling.. All I have is the roof/beams at level 2. How can i add suspended lights to this? Also is there any way to soften the shadows in rendered view? shadows above suspended lights in well lit rooms are pitch black, light doesnt appear to bounce off walls/floors to light the ceiling as it does in real life. All surfaces are white. Thanks very much for any tips you provide!

Hi, many families when they are created depend from other elements to be insert, the light are one of them but there is lights in your library that's "Pendant", they don't "catch" the ceiling, you must try to found one of them and if you don't like the shape you can edit that family and construct "your Shape" but don't forget to give another name when you Save, about the "Soften Shadows", i think you are Render an INTERIOR right? so if it's you can change the "Watts" of your light, before render you must use the RADIATE and when finhish the radiate you can make the render, in RENDER SETTINGS don't forget to put "BEST" in "Radiosity and Raytrace Settings" and to begin put a value superior than 25 in "Solution Goal" (try 400 or more - i go to 2500,so...), this is the number of STEPS the Radiate are calculated, (few value=draft, High value=Best) it's take a few hours (5, 10, 20 48 hours, depend from your machine), in "Reflection Bounces and Transparency Bounces" put "5" and in "Color Bleeding" put "1", this increase the time of Radiate and Render but improve BETTER the Quality of your Final Render. Good Luck, give me a Feedback ok?

OOOW, by the way, don't forget to enable the "Soft Shadows, Blurry Reflection, Blurry Transparency and Recalc Radiosity Lights, Use RADIATE ONLY FOR INTERIOR RENDERS, NOT EXTERIORS... Edited on: Sun, May 25, 2008 at 7:05:29 AM

Thanks for the advice typhoon. Those settings add a lot of time to the renders, but they look much much better too. cheers!

One of REVIT's ceilings is a default ceiling that has no properties except is will hosts lgeiling components. This is meant to be used in those exposed structure areas.
