I have to add some text to dimension and remove the value from it. Text can be added using prefix or suffix option but the value can't be removed. One option is to create the text with opaque background but is it possible to switch off the value field?

in 2008 you can't turn off the value. you can cover it up or make it really small by creating a new dimension style with really small text.

No... the purpose of revit is to be able to keep dimension annotations coordinated to the actual value of the dimension. There is a family called "Fake Dimension" available either here or somewhere in the AUGI Revit posts. You can use this to create a dimension that allows you to change the text. The other option is to make a dimension style that is INCREDIBLY small and then place text on top of the value. HTH!

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is never get involved in a land war in asia, but only slightly less well known is this! Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! |

Sorry to disagree, but I just went back to doublecheck and I can make dimensions in 2009 be replaced with text. But perhaps I am misunderstanding. What it does NOT allow you to do is to put a numerical value in the override box. That was a good idea, as you get the best of both worlds....no lying about dimensions, but you can change a dimension to something like"varies". See image.

If you absolutely must override the dimension with a value (I do not recommend this), you can always put a period or something in the value string. (example - 10'-5".) By placing the non numerical symbol it reads the field as text.

If really want to create a "fake" dimension with out any period or comma, here's a trick
After dimension is created, double click the value text, then
- Change to the value you want in the Replace With Text field
- And then, with the cursor still in the field, press Alt+0031 (press and hold Alt and type the numbers in the numeric keyboard wiht NumLock)
If you want no text, just do Alt+0031, and nothing will be showed.
Best regards,
