Revit v2009 I've got several CAD Drawings imported. I want to be able to edit the cad drawing and keep as much 3D info as possible. I don't have AutoCAD to open it up separately and edit. Is there a way to change something from an imported CAD format to a Group, which I could then edit in the group editor? I at least want the tags and their numbers to stay intact. Preferably the equipment blocks themselves stay intact. I've tried partial explode and full explode. All I get is model lines on the same workset as what the imported CAD drawing was on. The author of the cad drawing is working with me on this and has sent me two DWGs. On the first one when I exploded all that remained were the numbers from the equipment tags. Equipment blocks and tag borders disappeared. On the second DWG some of the blocks were intact, the equipment tag borders stayed as individual lines, and the tag numbers were gone. Any ideas??

Hi, y We had the same issuses at our company. DWG file that very just to difficult to handle. So we send them to a comapany called astacus, that specialice in file convertion with manual labor. In just 2days we had mulitply dwg drawings redrawn to Revit formats and to a low cost. ie 30dollars. Very fast and very good. Now we only focus on the design and convert alla our DWG to rvt. Hi, when you import files with CAD format they come just like a "Block", if you Partial or full explode this block, the components in 3D dissapear, Revit support ACIS objects just like NURBS, Extrusions, Revolves..., you can create an obj. in Autocad, Rhino, inventor, and so one, you can put the color and the material to those obj., before you render you can go to Settings-Materials and change the material(s) to that obj. or if you import an ACIS solid in a Mass family you can put "wall by face or Roof by face" in that, what i do in this case is if i can't do an obj. in revit because i spend to much time in that i go to Rhino, construct the obj., put the materials in that and then i import to Revit with LINK because if i need to change the form to this obj, i go again to Rhino, change them and go to Revit again and i have my obj.
