i imported from one template to another and all of the roof elements are not showing up.

 

it says model group members excluded.  i can see a grey out version of the roof but cannot access the geometry or see it in the roof plan or sections

That sounds like you have some hosted elements that can not find the appropriate element to host them.  If you have floor/roof hosted element, make sure those exist and that you are bringing in the new elements at the correct level.
