Hi I'm a new REVIT 2008 user and am struggeling with what I'm sure has an easy solution. When I place a column in a wall the column automatically "joins". I then "unjoin geometry" to seperate the two, but then the fill of my column is transparent so you see the wall through the column. How can I succesfully seperate columns and walls in my drawing so tha they appear as two elements with differenmt properties?

There are two different columns in REVIT. The generic column will automatically join to walls and will take on the property of the wall. It really should be called a pilaster. If you want a column that is different, then you should use the structural column.

What are you trying to achieve? It seems to be working as expected.

I think that the problem is described thoroughly by rpb811. When unjoining geometry it merges the hatches. I would rather see column or wall hatch not both. When someone first inserts a column it works fine but if use join once the column merges its hatch with the walls hatch.
