It is a matter of opinion, but when you see young students jump and work imediately with a program you know that this is a great product. Every one has a comment but it seems that they all agree that the REVIT LIBRARIES OF FAMILIES [objects] are very poor in numbers and of very poor quality. We talked about it and we understand that REVIT is a major upgrade from AUTOCAD but still many steps behind the 3DS MAX [REGARDING OBJECTS,AND 3RD PARTY OBJECTS]. Revit is prodactivity orientesd yet it lacks all the objects nedeed to make it the best architectural tool around. It will never contradict the final results of 3DS MAX but it will give Architects the essential tool they need before 3D STUDIO. Considering upgrading the quality and the quantity of the objects yet keeping it relatively simple??? Are there any 3rd parties working and selling REVIT elaborated families of objects??? Kind Regards NIKOS DIKEFALOS

The fact that you compare REVIT to 3dMax and 3DStudio tells me that you are looking at REVIT from a different angle then most on this list. Most of us are not pure designers. We are practicing architecture and using REVIT to produce designs and document them in a way we have never been able to before. As such, we too wish we had more families but I don't see them coming from the programers. Those families need to come from the manufacturer's and building component suppliers. And those components are coming. I think REVIT's growth has been noticed and I believe we will see a marked increase in what is available to us. Thes families may not be what you want though because for much of what we do, 2D families may actually work better.

I do agree that the 'out of the box' families are lacking in many ways, however in my situation it became very apparent to that we would need a great deal of families that can't be found anywhere, so I was tasked with learning everything I can about creating our own custom content and I am now poised to begin full production on our projects. I really suggest to learn the Family Editor to get the full use out of Revit. Once you learn how to create custom content you are basically unlimited in what you can create.
