To anyone who can help.... I have created a pile cap family with piles. I have added subcategories to turn the piles on/off because in plan hidden view they come out way to thick (we like our piles real thin in plan and the pile cap stays visible and is a hidden line). Now I use line work at 4'-0" or whatever I need above the reference plane so they do not show as hidden(putting them above the slab). Everything is fine when I updated the family in my model but new ones I put in or if I move the ones that are already in place their point of reference changes to my linework sending my pilecaps down 4 more feet. I put the linework above the reference point of the original pile cap I created so not understanding why it redefines it on new or moved families and the ones that are already in and untouched work just as I imagine they would. Well if anyone could help me-this would be an excellent tool in our presentation rather than having to find cheating ways that are not working with the way revit should

Sounds like they are hosted to your floor. When you initially place them, place them somewhere where there is no floor, then move them into the correct location. This way they are only associated to the level. HTH.

It happens when I move them also. They attach to the bottoms of my columns, of course, and as soon as I move near a column it pushes them down. The only way I can get this to work is to finish everything then add the lines to the family and reload it-as long as I do not move the pile cap it will stay there once I move it, even s smidge, I get the message that says foundation moved to bottom of column and the lines become my reference height. Thanks for the attempt though-anyone else? I really appreciate the help, thanks

How about this then? If I keep the piles on and they are hidden under the slab is there a way I can get them from being hidden lines even though they are "hidden"? I know I can change the sub-category and all but if they are under the slab they are hidden lines and controlled in my view by hidden lines in my foundation category no matter what sub category I assign to them they are "hidden lines" in revit. Hidden lines is a subcategory that seems to overwrite any other subcategory once that object becomes hidden under something else-please let me know if I am theorizing correctly. Reason-I want my pile caps of course to show with thicker hidden lines and the piles to show with real thin tighter spaced lines on plan. Really I appreciate any and all help-great site, brilliant people (flattery get me anywhere?)
