could your problem be that your light fixtures are "wall based" or "ceiling based" families?

you may need to create your fixtures as "face-based".

I've encountered your problem and created the attached a fixture to solve it.

good luck.

Hello, how can I switch a different light over to be faced based?  When I am in the family editor, I try to bring this ceiling based component into your family and it says "Cant use this type in this host" or do I have to just remodel this as a face based from the start ?? Thanks

JB

You just discovered a little secret that it took me awhile to realize.

Whenever I create ANY new family, it ALWAYS begins as a "generic family".

After it's modeled in "generic", it can always be converted to another family catagory.

Or, better yet... "nest" it into "face-based", "wall-based", ceiling-based" template.
