Currenty working on a hotel... I was thinking the new feature in 2008 was the way to go, but reading about some of the Linking issues here at RevitCity, I'm not so sure.  Please advise on which way to go grouping room types or linking them?

Thanks,

Jack

I don't group different room types but I do group elements that make up a room.

So if a room type changes.  you modify each one independently? Wall changes, furniture layout etc...

In autocad xrefs handel this nicely, would be nice if revit did too.

Do you have a good example of your room group setup?

Thanks,

Jack

I group my room types at the same "insertion" point.  That lets me swap groups at the pull-down in the options bar.  2008 allows you to exclude elements to a group on an instance bases.  I think this works much better that AutoCAD.

I had also included rooms within my group but you need to watch out what you include because of future editing times.  When you change a group, all of instances of that group have to be changed.

WWHub,

One issue that come up is... that walls that are in a group, will be used on a different floor may have different floor heights?  Have you ran into this?

Thanks,

Jack

If the wall heights are offset a fixed distance off the floor above, they should not be a problem.

WWHub,

I think I got this issue firgured out, groups with taller or shorter walls need to be a mod/rev of base group...

Group 1a, Group 1b, etc...

Thanks,

Jack
