I just got out of training last week and my head hurts a bit trying to remember all the commands... ;[ but! I have to admit I enjoy the instant gratification of creating model. I do have a question...I'm working on an interiors project...the base building has columns that I have successfully filled in with solid fills to show that they are existing... please pardon the CAD terminology, but how do you create a solid 'hatch' in revit? I'm trying to mask certain areas for a 2D plan... thank for your help everyone!!!

When you make a filled region, or pick a surface pattern, there is a list of different "hatches" which are available. You will be looking for one called Solid Fill. Go to MENU->Settings->Fill Patterns. This is your available "hatches". It is very simple to create new ones, so long as they are simple and no more than 2 lines. If you are going to play with these, I recommend opening up a test project so you don't accidentally botch something. And Welcome.

You mention that you are using "hatching" to denote that the colums are existing- did they cover "Phases" in your training? This allows you to easily distinguish between existing, demolished, new, etc. Regards, Ian

...in training we went over project phases briefly but not that much...I did keep my model that was created during the training session just so I could practice stuff outside the project document. Thanks everyone...I'll try the techniques you suggested! ;]
