I modified a recessed light to stick under a standard cabinet for use as an under-cabinet puck light but it does not cut the underside of the cabinet like it does a ceiling. I've also tried using the unmodified light that is delivered with Revit, it too does not cut the cabinet. The result is that light does not come out. Is there a way to cut the cabinet without modifying the cabinet family?

Do you want the light to cut the cabinet so that it will work correctly in a rendering or is this a detail issue?

Just for rendering. Thanks.

In that case, you have to edit the family.  If you have just one unique instance, that might just be as simple as adding a void in the family.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. I wanted to be able to use multiple instances and also be able to adjust the light position to achieve the best rendering.

If it were for a detail issue, what did you have in mind as a workaround?

How about taking the cabinet top out of the cabinet and placing a parametric plane arount your light.  Now when you place that light, you can grap the grips and adjust tem for each placement.

Good thought. How about if I made the hosting surface in the cabinet family as a ceiling? Another option, is to leave out the surface as you say, but then create a false ceiling in the model to host the lights. Thanks for the help. I just wish I could model it the way I would actually build it rather than having to "cheat." Revit can cut holes in walls and roofs, why can't we cut holes in other surfaces? Thanks for the help. This will work (I think) for now.
