Hello, I am attempting to create a fixture that will snap to a corner, I can see that ootb fixtures can snap to both however I am finding it difficult to get a plumbing-fixture-wall-based family to snap to both walls. What am I missing in regards to reference planes? THANKS!! Gatchy

Wall-hosted families will only host to a single wall. You can, however, you can host the family to one wall and align-lock the side of it to the other wall in the corner. For instance, I want my toilet to always be 18" from the wall to the side of it. The toilet is hosted on the back wall. In the toilet family I drew a reference line next to the toilet 18" to each side, dimensioned it ans locked the dimension. Now, when I drop a toilet in the project, I can align and lock to the wall the line when it lights up as I mouse over it. Now, the toilet stays in the corner just where I want it even if walls shift. You can do the same thing for other fixtures, sinks, stall families, etc. Of course, you could just dimension it in the project and lock it there as well.

I caution you about using invisible lines in families because if you use fixture schedules with room locations and the invisible line crosses the room boundry, the fixture may schedule in the wrong room. I prefer to just use the temporary dimensions when I place the fixture to locate it correctly. Remember, you can adjust where these go to by grabbing their grip and moving them.

That's weird. I can see how that could happen in theory, but I've never had it happen in practice. Good to know, though, so that I don't have to learn the hard way. Thanks, Hub.

Makes sense on both ends however I was expecting something along the lines of a one step process whereby the fixture would not only snap to the back wall but allow the 18" reference plane to snap to the intersecting wall as well. Is the only method to insert the toilet along the wall and then align it afterwards? Thanks to both for different inputs.

In any Family the intersection of the 2 Centre lines located in the Ref. Level view is the insertion point for the Family. If you create your fixture to the Left or Right & infront or behind this intersection then when you place your Family you can use the endpoint snap to locate the corner of 2 walls. If you also use Controls you will be able to flip the fixture around your insertion point. Hope this helps. Best of Luck John A
