I have an existing wall that consists of 8" CMU and 3" of EIFS. What we are trying to accomplish is to remove the EIFS and either leave the masonry exposed or add furring to the wall. I have existing, demo and new construction phases set up and to this point they were working smoothly. The only way I have thought about accomplishing this thus far is by making the existing 2 separate walls, the CMU and the EIFS, and then demolishing just the EIFS wall and inserting a new just furring wall adjacent to the CMU. This seems like it will cause problems later on with doors and window openings. Is there another way of doing this that I have not thought of? Thanks for your help.

What you can do is to have two walls (existing) side by side. One just the masonry and the other the eifs. Now - demo the eifs

when you add the new firring (furring?) wall adjacent to the CMU, to prevent the problems with the windows and doors. use join geometry to join the two walls together and the windows and doors will cut thru both walls. HTH

It seems like most people are dealing with it this way. However, has anyone figured out what to do to get window and door jambs to show correctly in the 2 wall types (one existing to remain core only and one new finish only) method for handling showing new finishes on existing wall? I find that the windows or doors I use it cuts through both wall fine, but the jamb and what not only goes the depth of the host wall even though the core wall and the finish wall is joined together. I thought perhaps it requires modifying the families of the windows and doors, but that seems to defeat the purpose of revit. Shouldn't we just be able to phase finishes? It seems entirely absurd to me that revit hasn't figured this out yet...? Or is there another method now and I've missed it. Any help would be appreciated! Seems like Revit hasn't gotten any better for renovation projects. Strange, given that is like half the game in the world of changing the built environment.
