Here is an interesting dilemma. The far clip active and offset distance parameters are greyed out on one of our projects exterior building elevations. When you select the elevation in plan - it shows the offset at 200' - if you slide it, it returns to the same position. In view properties, the far clip is on but greyed out and so is the distance. The elevation annotations are in a view that is a dependant view of a parent. Can this have anyting to do with it? we tried in both views to change it and it didnt work. I am not working on this project, and as the firms Revit help desk, I am baffled. Any ideas?? Thanks.

The process of making a dependant does grey out the option. Go into the parent elevation actually into the view, then go into view properties and the far clip active should be available to tick, then type in your new distance and it will update your dependant also. it only works in the parent view.

Thanks Pete - that doesn't work. In the parent view, both the active check box and the distance are greyed out. The far clip is already ticked and active - the distance is set to 200' We would like to change it to 140'. I also went into the elevation view and it is the same for element properties and view properties. I think we may just delete the view and see if we can place it again. Just one of those puzzling ones. Thanks for your input.

I tested it again and it worked for me. one note: when you make a dependant view it creates a elevation marker of the dependant directly on top of the parent elevation marker, if you hover the mouse over the marker and tab once you will select the parent and can drag that although sounds like there is a problem with your project, probably best to delete the dependant, change the distance and create a new dependant

I know this is an old thread, but I just encountered this problem. If anyone finds this and is still wondering about it, your view template will sometimes control the amount of far clip offset as well as the far clipping type. So if it's grayed out, go into your view template in the same properties box and make sure to uncheck "far clipping."

I just ran into this on my project and was a bit baffled since there was no view templete assoaciated with the view and the Far Clip Settings were set to Independent. It might seem like an obvious answer but I guess you should check the Far Clipping to make sure it is not set at No Clip. I guess you have to set the Far Clipping to clip for you to be able to change the Far Clip Offset...duh. Just something else for people to check when they come accross this thread in the future trying to figure out this problem (like I did).

I had this problem, and realised that it was because I was trying to change the 'Far Clip Offset' value for the callout's within the section instead of the Parent section -
As soon as I input a value and click enter, the orginal value re-appeared- As i had more then one section line on the floor plan with the same sheet reference I kept going to a referenced view... not the parent. Doh!
