Hi there, not sure if this is the correct part of the forum for this post. Basically I'm pretty new to revit, I normally work in cad and 3ds/maya. I'm really impressed so far with the efficiency of the program but I have just stumbled across my first issue. Basically I have a spiral staircase and when I create a handrail to go up the stairs and around to create a landing rail, hosting it to the staircase, the landing section of the rail hovers above the floorlevel. Granted that this happens also when it is simply a stair handrail too I'm a little lost as to what I've done wrong, any idea?Kris

I don't know if this will help or not, but you might want to check what your post host is ... open your element properties --> edit --> edit baluster placement --> Posts --> look under the base and see if it says host and that your base offset is 0. If it's not, you might need to change it. If it is, you may have to play around with the base offset until the railing looks right. Another option to check out is the level that you drew the railing on, if it's the same as the floor you show. HTH.

I looked at those settings, and I couldn't seem to get them to modify the gap, 2 or 3 uprights would move and the rest would stay. The file is too large to upload, otherwise I would upload that. what I don't get is the rail is perfectly connected to the stairs all the way up and then suddenly the rest is lifted up. I have drawn the rail on the level that the stairs arrive at. Kris

Sorry about that, I must have been duplicating the post everytime I refreshed, and I can't seem to delete them, my bad. Anyway, does this image make the problem more clear?

revit 2009 I seem to be having the same issue. The handrail gets to the top landing (which in this case is a slab I created--it is part of an external fire stair) and at that point the balusters begin sloping upward. I do not have the same problem with the guardrail--only the handrail. Did you ever figure out how to resolve this issue?

Railings are very hard to do and it takes a lot of time to learn but you need to do it. A railing sketch can be one line or multiple lines end to end. If it is one line and hosted by a stair, the entire railing will slope the full length of the sketch line. But if you break the line, you can have part of the railing sloping and part flat. You have to place that break at the correct point that will define the transition from sloping to flat and that will give you the correct height above the stair & platform. I suggest you spend some time witha plan, elevation & 3d view tiled at the same time so that you can experiment with this.
