Hi.  I am wondering if there is a way to select all instances of a component and with using the linework tool show it as a dashed object, because it is something not being provided in the contract.  BTW, I am using Revit Building 9 and the object I am writing about happens to be a keyboard/monitor set up (It is a 3d component).  Thanks in advance.  No one in my office seems to have a clue.

Its has been a while since I used 9.1 but I think you can hit tab while you are hovering over a line and it will select all lines of an object.

I know that I can tab select to get the whole object, but I am trying to select all of the component copies (I have, like, over a hundred keyboards that I am trying to switch the line work of).

Oh I see. I'm not sure if there is an easier way. You might look into filters. I believe you can set up a filter that will recognize a particular family and then apply that filter in the Visibility Graphics dialog. This should allow you to turn all objects the filter picks up to dashed line type.

Here are a couple of options you could try.

  1. Redefine the family.  Turn off the 3d representation in 2d views and use hidden symbollic lines.
  2. Redifine the family and put it in a category that you halftone in your views.  Not hidden lines but obviously ghosted elements.

Those are both excellent solutions. Don't know why didn't I think of that. Thanks WWHub.
