I have a Revit file that I am trying to export to DWG so that I can take it into VIZ. I have done this many times before and it has worked just fine. When I try it with this file though, it saves it as a file that is unrecognizable to AutoCAD or VIZ. I have tried other files and they export fine, it is just this one. Has anyone else experience this problem and if so, what did you do to fix it. I really need to get this Revit Model into VIZ. Please Help. Thanx SF

I also have exported many times to DWG with no problems. I am going to a 3-d view, then File/Export/Cad Format and when the export screen comes up a do notice that the full file name does not appear in the dialog box. When I do save the file, it does not save as a recognizable file to AutoCAD or VIZ. I do not know why this particular file is doing this and was hoping that it had happened to someone and they had a fix for it. I am not doing anything different than I normally do. Could something be corrupt in the file? Could the file be too large? I am stumped.

I've gone through the same process on a few different projects. On a couple of them, we had to create seperate Revit files and strip down the interiors to reduce the file size. Besides that, I'm not sure what it could be. Could you attach a screen shot of the export screen and what you're settings are?

Yes I have the latest update, and I can also export all the other Revit files that are in our system just fine into DWG. It's just this one will not do it. I think that maybe one can create a file too big to export? I have to have a way to get this one into VIZ to do a few walkthroughs. I know I can do them inside of REVIT, but I can do a better job in VIZ. "Maranelloboy" says to strip it down, but I need all the interior stuff and about everything on the outside. The File size is 54MB. Has anybody exported anything bigger?

I had a problem similar to this where the exprot worked fine, but when I opened it in ACA I would always get an error. What I found to work for me was instead of using a long naming convention, I used short or manual...downside, manual is for single views. I am curious why the file name and the export name do not match are they being changed? I have seen it where Revit does exports fine, until the long name is changed. the file name should look lke something like this: #0608-BREVAbilene-Ed--rvt-3DView-{3D} - 3D View - 3D View 4.dwg or: #0608-BREVAbilene-Ed--rvt-3DView-{3D} - Elevation - EAST.dwg I'm also not sure what view are all being exported, but I always export my 3d view by its self, and 2D views by themselves. HTH

I did not change the name of the file, everything that you see on the screen shot is just how it pops up when I do the export. I don't know how the name changes, but it does and I think that has a lot to do with what is going on.

I am going to close this thread out even if I did not find out why this happened. I was able to send this file to a friend and he opened it in Revit and saved it out with no problem to a DWG. He then sent me back the DWG file. I guess there is something wrong in my computer that won't let it save that particular file out. It remains a mystery..... Thanks to all that helped me with this.
