when you create a wall assembly and have an exterior layer that is unlocked, and change the offset (as in the case of a stone veneer on a concrete wall that doesn't go all the way to the base) is there a way for the wall schedule to calculate JUST the reduced wall veneer, not the total wall assembly?

good question Smile

the only way I can see to achieve this is by adding a parameter to the wall schedule something like: your wall overhang x wall length, that should give you the areas... though I never did it, let me know if it works...

That would work except the wall Element Property is "base extension distance" which is not an available field in the "Schedule Properties".

you will need to add the parameters yourself in the field window of your schedule properties.

add one that's called "bottom" (or whatever you like) then add a "Calculated Value..." see attached image, since you know that the extension is a given number, it will be easy to calculate.

hope this helps Smile

what is your field called "bottom".  The parameter I would need to calculate from is the "base extension distance".   Is there a way to have that become an "available field".

"bottom" is a parameter I created instead of "base extention distance" since it's not in the parameters list (why? i don't know!)

so, base extention is a given number, which you will need to enter in order for the formula to work, it's a bit of a round way around a problem that shouldn't have been there in the first place Smile

Are you manually entering the value for bottom?  In other words, the program is not reading it from the actual wall based on the base extension offset?

that is correct! i haven't found a way to get the parameter to show up with the correct value, but since you know the distance and I assume it's going to be the same all around the building, this is just a quick fix to get results.

I put in a new parameter called VeneerOffset and a subtotaled calculated field called Veneer which is

     Area-(Length*VeneerOffset)

It only takes a couple minutes to manually enter the VeneerOffsets which I did using a 3d view working around the structure.  No exactly full blown BIM but does the trick.  I found it helpful to re-set the schedule to schedule properties/sorting-grouping/itemize every instance so as not to miss a wall insance.  Bingo.   thanks!

I wonder if there is a way though to grab parameters from a family and add them to the "available fields".   the one I've alwys wanted was to show the hand of the door (which isn't actually a parameter but an orientation).

Also, in my schedule "wall height" in the attached schedule is a manually entered value, assists in quantity takeoff for concrete work.  Ought to be an available parameter but isn't.

There is no "wall height" parameter, I don't think they plan on adding it too. the problem is that your wall might go from level 1 to level 2 but if you edit the profile and took part of it to level 3 it will still read as level 2... once you add this parameter you are open to more mistakes.

I see your point.  But "Unconnected height" displays in the schedule even if you spec'd from level x to level y.  It would be helpful to be able to display "Unconnected height".  in the schedule or calculate using that "Unconnected height".
