2. i have a two storey bldg.. i drew the stairs on the ground floor but for some reason it wont show on the first floor plans. i checked the view and vut plane etc.. dunno..
3. is there a way to change the cut level for an individual wall? say i have a window below 3' but i want ti to appear in te plan?
4. in the 3d views is it possible to view just one floor at time without haveing to click on individual walls etc and hiding them?

1. The advanced tutorials in revit 7 (?) give full idea on creating door swings. The basic tutorials take you through door/window families. A lot of what you see in each view will be down to both the way you create the family, setting detail level of each oject and also your view parameters in terms of view range in view properties
2. Sorry to ask simple questions:
Have cut a hole out of first floor
Have you checked section to be sure stairs go up to floor level
3. Change your view range parameters in view properties. May need slight playing around to get full range required.
4. Again in view properties, switch on section box for which you can move sides of a cube to get just where you want the building cut in that view
5. Create it as a family drawing it in elevation.
Hope these help.

thanx that really helped... jus one question though.. i tried to make a trellis as a new family but somehow when i bring it into my drawing i can see it in 3d view but not in plan.. i tried to play around with the view setting but im not too familiar with it.. im sure its a matter of changing the viewing height but im not sure how to do that..wld appreciate ur help
thanx!
i think the problem is that the cut plane is set to 90 for my floor plan dwg and the trellis is at a ht of 240.. but if i change the cut height then itll screw up the rest of the dwg.. is there a way i can change the cut plane for a certain object only???

I believe it is view range issue. try and see..go to view properties>view range>reset cut plan until you can see the trellies
For the workaroound, to be frank, I never try this before but I believe it can work as there are some example people using it for show roof eaves lines over
Try open up for family, at plan view, draw a symbolic lines at level 0m to indicate trellies lines over, then align to your trellis edges
After that, reload your trellis family to your project.. Hope this help

Try leaving cut plane as it is to suit main components.
Play around with top and bottom offset values. If you know your trellis bottom is above 240 height, set top offset to just above this figure Remember to check where you are offsetting from). If trellis still does not appear then it would seem detail level settings on your original trellis family could be wrcausing the problem.
If you attach family to next post we could check it out.

have you tried adding a plan region to show items above your standard cut plane.

If you can view your trellies in 3D view, then there should be nothing wrong with your family, it is just a matter of how to present it in plan view, (In this case, I think you still want to remain the original view plan but still want to show the trellies above the cut plane)
I agree with Bim man, plan region might be a good workaround..
If by showing the symbolic dash lines is sufficient, then try my workaround (but let me know whether it works or not, coz I am yet to try on it, Just knew by theory)
try to see the following thread by Mr. Spot, only different is doing it family then reload to project or doing direct on project. (I believe both case should work)..
