Here's the situation:we are trying to figure out how to draw Foundation walls Accurately so we can export our drawings for our Structural engineer.  But Revit of course wants to be Revit and not work properly.  We have tried to use the Foundation>Wall tool and use a 12" foundation wall.  But it aligns the Foundation Wall along the stone walls centerline.  We don't want that.  We want both faces of the walls to be aligned.  When we cut a plan through the foundation walls we cannot use the align too on these 'locked' walls.  They are locked proportionally with whichever wall was selected when drawing them. Is there a way to align these faces?

We changed the Eccentricity to -0'-4" (because our stone veneer is 4" ) and it aligned properly and the faces were correct.  But then the corners of the foundation walls do not join and extend beyond the intersection point.

So now we're stuck. We've resorted to actually drawing a 5.5" Generic wall along the outside of our home.  But that isn't technically correct because we're just placing a normal wall as a foundation wall.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this issue?  It is really turning out to be a big hassle because this step in our drawings ia big process.  Thanks so much.

When you place your foundation walls, pay attention to your location line setting on the options bar.   To fix now , from plan or section - click on the foundation wall - pick move - on the options bar pick disjoin and move the wall out the 4" you need.

Ok two things:

When placing my foundations walls using the Structuarl Foundation>>Wall tool.  I don't get any options in the options bar.

Second, when I have already placed my walls and I select them, then select Move.  There is an option titled 'disjoin'.  I select that and try to move it.  It won't move.  I can go thought the motions and specify the desired distance, and it just acts as if nothing happened and stays put.

So anything else that I can do to fix this?  Thanks,

Lorne

Sorry - I don't understand.  What version are you using?

When I pick structural wall, I have several options on the options bar including rather I want to sketch it or point to a wall, if it's connected, it's height, its location line ....

Is your wall pinned in place or locked with an alignment lock?  Mine move just fine using the process I gave.

I'm using Revit 2008 (in my sig).  But you mentioned using a 'Structural' wall.  I'm talking about Foundation Walls.  Is there a difference?

Here's a screen shot of my options.

Hello lorne17,

The options that WWHub was talking about appear on the options bar before you place them.

One you might want to look at would be the location line of the wall. This option will control how the wall is generated from face of core, centerline, finished faces. Just set it's location and then use the pick option(the white arrow fromt eh options bar) and just select your exterior walls.

This can also be changed by going through the properties of the all after it was created, it should be the first option.

You can also adjust you view range and then use the ALIGN command to line you foundation walls with the exterior walls.

HTH,

Brett

I see your problem, I think you can use standard wall as foundation, this will make work easier.

Just set the wall function as foundation in the wall type properties, and it will be technically correct working as foundation.

You do know I'm using the FOUNDATION WALL tool.  Not the WALL tool?  When I chose the tool, Structural/Foundation>>Wall  I get no options before I place the wall.  I get no options after I place the wall.  I cannot select core, core of face, finish face, etc.  I can only pick the host wall for the foundation.  Then yes, I did go into a Foundation Plan and try to align it and still I cannot move it.  Look at the image.  This screen shot is take while I'm in the tool, before placing the foundation walls.

Gunawan, this seems to be the best option.  Thanks.

The tool that you were using to create your foundation wall is ment for creating strip, spread footing and what not, not foundation walls. Kinda decieving based on the name of the tool.

It is for the foundation of the wall, not the foundation wall itself. This is why you were not able to reposition the "wall"

or had any options befor or after it was placed as this tool is to be sued by just selecting the foundation wall and it generates a ftg based on the foundation wall.
