Good morning! This may be a stupid question, but it would be like Revit not to allow us to get this custom. I have all of my details drawn in AutoCAD and imported into Revit. I've set up the sheets & Drafting Views for each on of my details. Now, some of my details are not drawing to scale, so I would like to put "NOT TO SCALE" in the title of the drafting view. Also, we put "NOT USED" for blank detail boxes... which obviously do not have a scale. Can we make the scale in the view title blank or "NOT TO SCALE"? Just a side note, I tried to go into the custom scale in the drafting view and make it blank or add the text. It wouldn't allow me to do that. Thanks in advance for your help. Mike

When we do this we put a text box with "Not to Scale" and place it over the view scale area of the view title. That way it covers it up and prints out as though it is part of the view title.

Great idea... thanks. I can't believe there are still so many basic drafting principles that Revit doesn't support (A descent spreadsheet would be nice too). It seems like there is a lot of time spent trying to find work-arounds. Hopefully the next version will finally address some of these issues. Thanks again for your help! Mike

Mike, As you have set up your sheets & Drafting Views for each on of your details, I am curious if your Revit file, once you build your model on a given project, will be bogged down. I am importing (linking) all of my typical details individually to drafting views as well and I am worried about slowing down my Revit file once my model is built. Your thoughts are appreciated. I actually did it a little different. I created all of my details together into one AutoCAD file and imported one file into Revit. I made 4 dependent copies in revit for the 4 different sheets. I then created all the different drafting views for each of the details. Now there is a litttle work-around the get the drafting views blank. When you first make the view, draw a detail line in the view. Then you can drag the detail view onto your sheet... then erase the line in your detail view. I haven't had any problems with revit slowing down any more than before I put in the details... and I have about 75 drafting views. I hope this makes sense. For me, it seems to be working out really well... especially Revit (in my opinion) is terrible with drawing details.

Hey, you could create a view port title with the annotations of "Not to scale" or "Not used". Instead of creating a label where the scale goes, you could put text with your desired annotations instead. That way, for every view that isn't to scale, you are able to have the view name correct, and the annotation under it as required. I use this all the time, as I create generic viewport titles called "1:50 (A1)". I create a view reference that has the annotation "scale 1:50 (A1) 1:100 (A3), and for every viewport that is at 1:50, I apply my generic view tag to it.

Hi everyone, well I found out a way to change the scale display on a detail imported as a cad file to read N.T.S. In the drafting view where you have imported the cad detail click on the scale at the bottom left of the view. Instead of selecting a scale choose custom scale then a custom scale options box should appear, in the box there will be an option called display name. Here you can type in what you want either NOT TO SCALE or N.T.S. and it will appear as typed in the sheet you place the detail in. Once the detail is in the sheet you can then select the detail and change the scale on the properties to the left to what ever you desire and the it will always read not to scale. Hope this helps out.
