My firm is a small residential firm specializing in high-end custom homes. We are in the midst of a shift from CAD to Revit and are running Revit 2008.0.0.

We were in need of a software upgrade, and with some new staff on board with Revit experience (commerical, institutional), the choice was made to get the Revit Architectural Suite, in order to use CAD while we made a gradual shift into Revit. So we are trying to knock out certain issues as we can get to them, and the following is one of the biggest.

I have attached a PDF and jpeg of an eave detail that we use in our firm quite often; it has become something of a signature move of our principle. So you can see how this would create some road-blocks to our goal of moving completely into Revit. Here is what I have done so far:

-Using the Sweep command, I created a profile by drawing over the section detail that I have attached. I then chose a wall as the desired path, and was able to create a 'general model' of this profile. But then the problems...I am not able to edit the length of the modeled segment; the model seems locked to the level on which I picked the wall/path, so I am not able to move it on 'z' axis in section/elevation to blend the profile with the roof structures already there; and I am not able to apply any surface properties to get the modeled element to blend with the material choices of the roof.

I am going to explore more of the Host Sweep-Fascia/Gutter tool as an option, and if this works it might answer my question of how to get this detail to work in a hip-roof condition.

Any insight on this issues is greatly coveted. Thanks.

Thanks to all who replied.

Here's an update on what's worked so far: I did a lot of exploring with the Host Sweep/Fascia tool, and that has worked pretty well. Using the Profile template, I simply traced the section that I had previously attached, and then created similar profiles for 12-12, 14-12, and 16-12 pitches. Now, in the Fascia tool I can simply choose my profile to match whatever pitch I have at my existing roof structure. Now that it's within this Host Sweep tool, I am able to add surface material choices, edit the length of my roof and the fascia continues to correspond, and also manually edit the length of the "fascia" that I have added. My question concerning the hip roofs was also answered. Using my created profiles in the Fascia tool, they will join at the edges, IF the roof structure you're attaching it to is at the exact same level, and even then, you also have to make sure it's joined, all of which are some of the methodologies of the program.

Still, if anyone has any other ways to approach this, I'm always looking to up my game.

You solution seems like a good approach. To solve the problem you were having previously, you could have selected the sweep object and there should have been a button on the top bar to dissacociate from work plane.  After disassociating, you can move in the 'z'
