Hi ALL,
Please help me to update the below survey. Lately, I have a few new Revit user friends complaining that their bosses expected them to master and use Revit in 2 weeks. I told them it is impossible given my own experience. I really pity those guys. So I need to compile a broader picture survey to show the bossess here or even in your country that new user need time to learn Revit. So far we only have 5 users in the WORLD!
Thank you in advance.
Name Country Version Time
KimWong Malaysia Revit 6/7/8 6 months.
Shawn Gravell South Africa 9.1 5 months
Alex Welch United States 8/8.1/9 6 - 9 months
Cory Dyer United States 7-8.1 5 months
Chris Price Australia 4/4.5 1.5 months"
I am very curious to know where you ended up. Did you become a Revt guru?

While you can do some very simple things in Revit after a couple of weeks, I would not consider you to be trained until at least a year and in the right environment, you will still need continuous work exposure and short, montly training sessions to increase your knowledge. You may be really good after five years.
I have to add that I am talking aboust someone actually using Revit for production of design and documentation. Simply producing a Revit model is far easier than learning and using it as a BIM tool which includes document production and sharing/working with multiple consultants using Revit and CAD products.

"Hi ALL,
Interesting to find out what overseas member think about this question.
In Malaysia, I found many firms has problem in getting their staff to use Revit. The boss bought Revit, hoping the projects will fly off and make BIG profit. But they were dissapointed. It was discovered the staff found it too hard to master it. So the software sit on the shelf. Like forever.
Wonder if this same problem encounter in your side of the world? Maybe you want to share how your office gets it to work. Thanks."

Sorry .... I really miss-read your first post and did not see you were quoting. Darn glasses...I blame them for all my mistakes anymore.
You are right, KimWong has not been on since 2009.
