I am a graduate of LTU. You may first want to try their laptop. They are not the best but will save you money. Post edited on 2006-10-09 09:16:32

hi everyone, i'd like to jump in here, as i'm also looking for a laptop, and unfortunately, i don't have an unlimited budget! i'm currently looking at getting a refurbished dell m90 (http://dell.com/outlet). as an example of what you can get (the inventory changes constantly), i saw this yesterday for $1,729: Dell Precision Mobile Workstation M90 Notebook Genuine Windows XP Pro 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM 677MHz (2 DIMMs) 80 GB EIDE Hard Drive (7200 RPM) 512MB NVIDIA Quadro FX 2500M (dedicated), OpenGLCertified Certified Refurbished Intel Core Duo processor T2500 (2.00GHz/667MHz) 8X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability 17 inch UltraSharp Wide Screen UXGA Notebook Screen 9 Cell Primary Battery 3945 802.11a/g Wireless Mini Card Bluetooth Wireless Card Roxio Creator Delux so my question is would it make more sense a 2 gig clock speed on the above core duo machine, or get a slower clock speed on a new core 2 duo? thanks! mkm

I run a Dell Inspiron 6400 2Ghz CPU 2Gb (thereabouts) RAM (Oh yeah, and internal WiFi, for your college network) Price was pretty darn good, since it was all delivered to my door, never got out of my chair - roughly $2000 (Aussie) Which in Yank currency is, what? $1500odd? Revit works fine, and so far the battery hasn't exploded on me!

If I can only get one point across make it this one. DO NOT buy an Alienware. I had a Area 51 5700 Laptop for 1 year and the motherboard crapped out. Zero customer service or tech support untill you buy a service plan. After dropping 3k on my laptop they wanted me to ship the computer back to them (at my expense) pay them hourly to diagnose and repair problem as well as pick up the cost for componants...this is after I would have to buy the "extended service plan". Do to Alienware being who they are you will not be able to find replacement parts anywere on the internet. I now have a 3000 dollar paperwieght and a 600 dollar desktop that kicks the crap out of my old laptop. Settle for no LESS then the following: 2GB RAM 7200 RPM Hard Drive 256 Mb Video card AND 256 bit 2.2+ AMD or 2.8+ Pentium Your best bet for college would be have a desktop PC in your dorm/house that is a beast and runs revit and have a nice compact MACfor school related stuff (notes, music, internet research). If you must have a laptop that runs revit get something that is small enough to not wiegh you down. You will walk alot in college.

my current computer that i have is a dimensoin 2400 desktop, about 4 years old. i was thinking abput taking that and beefing it up, its just all stock right now and runs revit fine, except renderings take anywmere from 20-30 mins for an image, then at least 5 hrs. min for a 50 frame walkthough. what would be connsidered "light" by laptop standards. heres what ifound at dell http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&oc=M1210S1&s=dhs Post edited on 2006-10-18 10:04:23
