Make a new dimension type with a "blank" text. When you make a dimension string then none of the dimensions will show up, then you can just use text to type whatever you want

Revit Arch 2009 has fixed that problem. You can pick the dimension then pick the dimension text and change it through a "Dimension Text" window with many other options. The Cadpounder

"I have been burned too many times in AutoCAD by people who simply over-rode a dimension rather than drawing it correctly. " It should always be drawn to scale...especially if you have a model deliverable, which I do...we have very strict cad standards and not drawing something correctly will be picked up by the other disciplines. Still there are conditions and details where you need to over write the dimension...for example...I know I have a girt line, but probably won't know where it is at until it's erected (we do a lot of design build). I would be great if this detail was dynamic there are cases...for example...may be I don't want to give a louver opening dimension, I just want to say "Opening" gotta go...that's all for now
