And I thought I was the one always pointing to the Help....

This information was not available in earlier releases and I had not seen it.

Good pointer jmgrsq - It looks like I have some tools I was not using.

I was having the exact same issue with tables and chairs, and found this entry

just wanted to post since the link from jmgrsq is broken

 

For the chair family, if you turn OFF "draw in foreground" and have the masking region set to a reference plane at the proper height is shows up properly - I had two separate masking regions, one at the elevation of the seat and the other at the height of the seat back.  I also set the table masking region to a reference plane at the proper height.

A=stool

B=sofa

select A=stool family.

go to edit family.

change the view to front elevation.

add model line <invisible> which must heiger than your B=sofa height.
