Woo! Thank you Hugh, we've been trying to figure this same thing out for ages with no solution.
WWHub....your problem was you took a screen shot and you are zoomed out too far for the MONITOR to show....but if you zoom in it shows correctly. Looks fine printed as well.

jaredandstuff, Your problem is inexperience. Plot thhat at the 3/4 scale and then you may be able to understand.

I print this exact pattern out at 3/4" = 1'-0" all the time and the poche shows correctly.
It does not show up as solid black like the one you show WWHub.
Possibly a printer DPI setting?
