As an imported 3D CAD element, it will not cut. I have not personally used the IFC but I have seen what the results are when another member staff used it. The IFC is an export from AutoCAD. You will have to determine if it is available in your third party software. Using the IFC, all of the 3d components in the CAD file become individual 3D components. Each one is named but it is something like xxxx1, xxxx2 etc. and can be individually addressed. As I understand it, these are face based components and are cutable.

Thanks for the quick response. I tried to open up my AutoCAD 2009. I tried File > Export, and couldn't find the .ifc file format as one of the options. (Please see the attached PDF file) Just for my understanding: If the consultants files are not created in Revit, even if they save them as .dwg format. When I import those into Revit, they are not cutable in the section view. The only turnaround is to have them save as the .ifc format, and import those into Revit? What about if their 3rd party software doesn't support it, what's other alternative method? Thanks in advance.
