DG - just wanted to report back.  I found the best way to go about this was to model the deck as a slab on my "deck bearing" level (which intersects the actual steel for the roof at exactly one point.  I then used the slope arrow and changed the slope of the "slab" to match the framing.  Done.  I don't believe this will change dynamically if I were to change the slope of my roof, but it's only one simple step to change it and I think this is going to be my best bet.  Just thought I'd let you know what I found.

Cool. The slope arrows are good. Not fully parametric but what the hey.
