LOL, you have to have in attention when you delete or change the elevation of the points because if you split the surface the "common points" (between the two surfaces) must have the same elevation, if not, you "Create" that mess...

so i have deleted all contour lines from the imported autocad survey plan. fine,it's all flat. can someone tell me what is the COPY AND EDIT INTERNAL POINTS is about? i'm noticing that another copy of the imported survey plan was created. has this got to do with the phasing thing?
