OK, found the answer to my custom-made-material-problem myself. Seems like Revit doesn't like norwegian characters æøå. So, to all my fellow Europeans with odd characters (in your alphabet, that is), remember to englify your jpegs to get your materials working.

We have just upgraded to 2009, and cant figure out the render appearance library. If the revit asset library is read only, is there a way of making our own libabry to use like the asset library, where the material and saved externally and not just project based?????????????????Please Help

i have been trying to create a new marble material using the older JPGs from accurender and when i repath to the new image file i get a message that says 'invalid image file' and the preview goes black. any ideas why this is happening? ive tried moving the jpg to the assetlibrary location in program files with the other JPGs that come with 2009, but still no luck. thanks

Yeah but you can BROWSE where is the "Invalid Image" and search (folder and file) where is the new image you want, then pick them and you can change the parameters of the new "Texture"... "Bump, Cut-Outs, and so one....

Yeah, Colin, hi post right now in other post but if you see your image then "Invalid Image file" its because the path before that are invalid, if you pick in the right of the path <...> you open the the folder when you can search the image (texture) you want....

yes, that is exactly what I am doing. I click <...> to browse, locate my image on my harddrive, select it and click 'open' and then instead of displaying the image, it dispalys 'invalid image file' like in the thumbnail i posted above. The file i am choosing is in .JPG format like all the other images used for render materials. I have also tried simply changing the JPG to one that came with revit 2009 just as an experiment and still get the same error message in the window.

I think I got it....I opened the JPG in photoshop and resaved it as a PNG file type and when I loaded the image in the material editor it appeared totally normally. What I don't understand is why the rest of the materials work in JPG format, but that besides the point. After the file conversion it seems to work fine. On the subject of textures....anyone have any idea if there is a location to find or download these images for rendering purposes? Id like to build up a large material library and transfer the project standards into the revit file template so that each new project I Start will have all the new materials built into it already.

the problem, i have discovered, is localized on my computer only. i tried changing the JPG on a different computer in the office and it worked fine. something about my network settings isn't allowing the files to be repathed correctly. ill have to wait until monday when the IT guy can take a look. thanks for all the help though....

Look, Colin, i gonna put a video for you, the revit assumes very well the JPEG files like you gonna see in the video but you can do that, (just like i do sometimes, go to photoshop and convert JPEG in PNG and vice-versa) but about your question: "I'd like to build up a large material library and transfer the project standards into the revit file template so that each new project I Start will have all the new materials built into it already.", well most of the guys i know have several files with wall, materials and so one createad and then he transfer the projects what he wants, in this case the materials to do not to make AGAIN the same thing, in the past we can create the USER LIBRARY where we have all materials created and then only we must do is apply to the elemenst the materials we want, in this version they had abandoned that SIMPLE act, , i don't know why, someones told in the next version they gonna put again the user library like in Revit 9.1 and 2008, i don't know it's true but we have ang one to see. I hope so... but see the video, it's FREE, you don't pay anything to this:
