hi there,

i have been told that is is possible to write notes in a 3d view

however, when i attempt to write in the view the whole design bar (far left is grayed out.

my question:

a is it true that one can write in a 3d view? 

b how can i make the design bar active?

your help would be greatly appreciated

hi,

thanks for your quick responce jhanby.

did you use text under the "basic" or "drafting"  heading and was it in a .rvt project file? 

i opened a few files just in case my prob was peculirar to that single file, but i had the same prob.. 

i must have some setting wrong or a dud copy of revit

You can place text in an isometric 3D view but not in a perspective view...

If you want to annotate a perspective view place the text on a sheet.

thanks mate,

i was working in a perspective view.

i can put that to rest now.

intead of just putting it on the sheet, i created a drafting view and parked that next to the view on the sheet.

more work but easier to keep track of when deleting or rearranging the sheet

Properly you can try model text...It is a long shot but it should just work to your extent..

btw, never knew that we can insert text in 3d view, thank for the tips & Good Luck.

is there a choice in 3d text fonts?

with the new hide command it is possible to temporarly get rid of it as well.

life was not ment to be easy an australian prime minister once sad.

the bugger was right too.

Yes, You can change font thru property & hide the Model Text as well using the hide object tool or turn off using view properties>visibility>generic model

Which Australia Prime Minister was it? Heard the current prime minister is having a tough election coming on soon..Whatever; no politic; just revit...cheers!!

As far as I ve tried, there are no easy way to this.

Guess there are not much demands on doing it engraves effects although there is a long way out of this by sketching text viod to achieve the effects....Properly it should be in the wishlist.

Yes this is possible.

Simply place the text where you need it embedded into the wall, use join geometry with the text and the wall, then give the text a material that is 100% transparent.

hi lab21,

i do not know of an official way to "engrave" text in 3d

i tried 2 slow ways for you

i

start a generic family called "plaque"

create a solid (standing upright about 20 mm thick.)

you can embelish by putting a bevel (void sweep around the edges) 

place 3d text on the face (edit text to the desired wording and push it to the rear face out of the way when tracing).

then create individual voids for each letter by tracing each letter 

zoom in on the arcs and you see tthey are made up of facetc or secment just trace these.

with the letter o just start on the outer circle and offset to the inside they filleted automaticly, 

when complete insert the "plaque" into your project and stick it to a wall

you can use "edit profile" in your project to edit the wall

and do similar to the above.

the text will cut through the whole wall (i tried a cavity wall) this may not matter if it is not seen from inside

you could create a thin wall of 20 mm and reduce the main wall accordingly

but would not be desireable for larger jobs with many people working on it or for bill of materials

try a void sweep for each letter? would be a lot of work if it did work at all

if you are realy keen the above is not that much work

Thanks for the tip, I did tried the transparent 3d text but didin't know the join geometry can be applied in this case.

lab21 & Robert,

Tested and approved...This is the easilest way which doesn't take much of an efforts. just place your model text into a wall, join geometry and change model text materials to 100% transparent..
