I have looked up all the keyboard shortcuts to add symbols in text, and the centerline symbol is not included in them. Does anyone know how (if it's possible) to add the centerline symbol in with text? Thanks in advance!

"In with text"? It sounds like you want to put the centerline symbol into something like a note or similar? If this is the case, then I think the only way to get a true text symbol like that is to use a font (default, downloaded or otherwise) that has the centerline symbol in it's character set to begin with. If you are wanting to add a centerline symbol to a drawing (detail or whatever) you can make a drafting component or just group a properly positioned "C" and "L" together and copy around. I had a situation where I wanted a dimension to pop up the centerline indicator when I could not find (or didn't have) a true centerline to pick. I made a thin, empty and invisible rectangle family with instance-adjustable sides that I could lock to equidistant points to generate a centerline by to get an associated point that automatically adjusts and keeps the dimension accurate as changes are made. It all just depends on the situation I guess.

Thanks for the quick response. I will start searching through all the fonts for one with that symbol. Thanks again!

Found the Centerline Symbol in the RomanS font using CHARMAP. But, if I try to paste it in with some Revit text, I just get a little rectangle. The rest of the symbols in RomanS seem to paste in just fine . . . but not the one that I need. What gives?

I don't know... I tried it just now and can't get it to not work. I just copy-paste it out of charmap. Is that what you are doing?

That's exactly what I'm doing. I'm not sure why it doesn't work. Every other symbol that I've tried from that font and from others, works fine. I wonder if I should reinstall that font or something.

" This is an old post, but you are getting the rectangle probabaly because your font is Arial in Revit and even though you found the CL symbol under RomanS the charmap code is 2104 or soemthign like that. Either Arial font doesn't have 2104 as a possible charmap, or the symbol for 2104 under Arial is a rectangle. To get the CL symbol to show up in Revit, you have to change yoru font over to RomanS in revit for it to work. Kinda sucks!!

I should have been more specific in my first response. By "use a font" I meant as the base font, since, as mentioned, you can't mix and match. It is because of this that selecting your font for Revit should be a deliberate process. We went through a relatively drawn out process to select a new font standard when we switched to Revit. Here is the criteria we used to narrow down our choices: 1. Revit and Windows standard font (compatibility...avoid headaches like our old custom AutoCAD font) 2. Sans serif 3. Number ones and letter "I" need top and bottom (to distinguish them from each other) 4. Number 4 has closed top (pet peeve drafting standard) 5. Character set includes diameter symbol, degree symbol, plus/minus, copyright and a few of the greek letters for structural department. 6. Legible at 1/8" tall Once narrowed down we chose based on look and went with Comic Sans...which is not what I consider an ideal solution. It looks OK small, but large on coversheets, titleblocks or even view titles it doesn't look great. Centerline wasn't an issue because we use it in text so infrequently that we just spell it out.

" After Looking at this further, you can switch to Arial Unicode MS font and you still get your Arial font that we all love and enjoy so much. Also it has a Centerline symbol in its charater set. Its not as simple and plain that we like to see in the RomanS character set. the Centerline Symbol is a Serrif font (don't know why when Arial is a Sans Serrif font) But it works. That Character set also has your diameter symbol and degree symbol and other commonly used ones (I would hope so it has over like 3,000 symbols!).

I would love to make a case for a new font standard, but don't see Arial Unicode MS in either my Revit default list or MS Word or Windows Character Map. Is it standard?

"I would love to make a case for a new font standard, but don't see Arial Unicode MS in either my Revit default list or MS Word or Windows Character Map. Is it standard?" I beleive its standard. I know we havn't added any special fonts in our office. It shows in both Revit and MS Word and the Charcter Map! In Revit its between "Arial Rounded MT Bold" and "BankGothic Lt BT" MS Word it is between the same two fonts and the CHARMAP it is again between the same two fonts. Are you on a windows machine? I think it is a font MS (Microsoft) Made to inclue ALL languages under one font- if you find it and brows through you have korean, chinese, greek, arabic ect... characters all under the one font.

Very strange. I get only Arial, Arial Black, Arial Narrow in all three of the programs. I am using Windows XP Pro (2002-SP2). So I don't get the fancy Arial fonts but you don't have 11 "Arno" fonts...doesn't seem like a fair trade to me. I'm jealous.
