I was wondering if there was a way to use visibility graphics to somehow halftone the interior walls compared to the exterior walls? same thing for elevation tags. I only want to do this for one or two individual views as I know I can change them all thru object styles....well the tags anyway. Any help would be great! JQ

If you have the exterior walls on a different phase than the interior walls you could set up a phase filter.

I wouldn't use a phase filter, rather I wuold use a filter in the Visibility/Graphics dialog. Check out the Revit Help section on creating a filter. You'll have to insert some information into the walls' parameters. I've used the Type Comments field, and put in "Interior Partition" for all of the interior walls (I also use this parameter as part of a description legend tag). Then filter by that parameter.

As far as elevation tags - if you're using 2008 you can override the graphics by element of the tag in the desired views. (You can select all of the tags you want to halftone at once and override the graphics for all of them.) Aside from that, there's no other way that I know of. Visibility/graphics filters don't apply to annotations.

Just select the elevation tag(s) in the view in which you want them to be halftone. Right-click and select "Override Graphics In View" -> "By Element" and check the box next to halftone.

You could - however I wouldn't consider it a best practice to so. I would still stick to visibility graphics filters: Edit the Type Parameter "Type Comments" for each interior partition type to read "Interior Partition" (unless you're using this parameter for something else. In the views you're working with, go to the V/G dialog box and click the Filters Tab Click Edit/New. Add a filter, checking wall for the category. Under "Filter Rules" Filter by Type Name equals Interior Partition. Click OK. Now click Add and select the filter you just created. Check the box in the Halftone column. This way, if you add a new interior wall, it will also show up halftone (assuming it has the correct Type Comments)

Yes, it's time consuming, but most importantly it doesn't take advantage of Revit's parametric capabilites. Like I said in that earlier post, if you draw a new wall of an Interior Partition type, and you have set up filters, it will show up as halftone. If filters aren't set up, you would have to hunt it down and change it by element. It decreases the chance of human error.

Why not use phasing and phase filters? You should be using phases anyway in good file set up, and doing a phase filter wouldnt be much to set up.

Phases are intended to be used in projects with multiple phases, such as renovation projects. It makes it possible for you to separate existing, demo, and new. They are not necessary for a "good file set up" if you're just working on new construction, in my opinion. There are other uses for phases. For example, I use a phase for my partition, door, and window legends so that I am able to tag objects in the legends (which you can't do in a legend view), but they don't show up or schedule with the actual building. But that's just my 2 cents.

oK i SETUP THE VISIBILITY GRAPHICS FILTER FOR THE INTERIOR WALLS. NOW IS THERE AN EASY WAY TO COPY THOSE FILTERS FORM VIEW TO VIEW OR DO I NEED TO SET THEM UP ALL INDIVIUALLY IN THE VIEWS I NEED THEM IN?
